Implantologie ist die fortschrittlichste Methode

Implantologie ist die fortschrittlichste Methode

An implant replaces the root of a lost tooth. Whether it lasts is decided not by the implant itself but by the tissue around it. That is why implantology belongs on a periodontology portal.

Untreated periodontitis is the most common reason implants fail. The same bacteria that destroy the bone around a natural tooth also attack the implant bed – the disease is then called peri-implantitis. An implant has no periodontal ligament and gives no pain signal; the loss is often noticed only once it wobbles.

The order is therefore always the same: heal the periodontitis first, then implant, then attend aftercare for life. Anyone who keeps to these three steps has good prospects. Anyone who skips the first usually loses the restoration within a few years.

Our sister portal covers the surgical and prosthetic questions – bone grafting, 3D planning, ceramic implants, costs.

Implantology

When a tooth is lost, the bone beneath it recedes. An implant takes over the role of the root and keeps the jaw in shape – provided any periodontitis has been treated first.

The Implantat-Berater is our sister portal and covers implantology in full depth.
