Veneers – thin ceramic shells

Veneers are thin ceramic shells bonded to the front surface of the anterior teeth. They even out discolouration, small chips and irregularities.

Little substance is lost

Unlike a crown, the tooth is ground only on its outer surface and only slightly. Because the ceramic transmits light much as enamel does, the result looks alive rather than applied.

Conditions

A veneer needs a healthy foundation. The gum must be free of inflammation and the margin of the veneer must not reach into a periodontal pocket – otherwise the aesthetic improvement turns into a place where bacteria gather. Where tooth necks are exposed after periodontitis, the practice therefore checks carefully whether a veneer is the right solution.
