Air polishing in periodontal therapy

An air-polishing device removes deposits with a fine jet of powder, air and water. Above the gum margin it has long proved its worth – what is new is its use below.

Working inside the gum pocket

With particularly fine powders and slim nozzles it is possible to work below the gum margin as well. The jet reaches places no instrument can get to, and it spares the root cementum – unlike scraping with hard curettes.

Patients notice the difference: less pressure, less sensitivity afterwards. It does not replace thorough cleaning, but it makes it more complete.
