What periodontal treatment costs

Vor Behandlungsbeginn erstellt der Zahnarzt einen Befund, auf dessen Grundlage ein Antrag für die Parodontitisbehandlung gestellt wird.

The statutory health insurer covers periodontitis treatment – but not everything that goes with it. Before treatment begins the practice records the findings and applies to the insurer on that basis.

What the insurer pays for

  • recording of findings with PSI and the application itself
  • radiographs: individual images and a panoramic view
  • models of the jaws where needed
  • local anaesthesia
  • closed treatment (initial therapy)
  • open, surgical treatment
  • accompanying antibiotic therapy

What you pay yourself

  • Professional cleaning before treatment – even though it largely determines the outcome
  • Three-dimensional imaging (CBCT or CT)
  • Bacterial tests, roughly 70 to 120 euros depending on the method
  • Laser treatment, billed under the German scale of dental fees
  • Regenerative procedures such as tissue grafting, recession coverage or papilla reconstruction

And afterwards

Aftercare with regular check-ups and professional cleaning secures the result. You will usually contribute to those costs. Ask for the scope in writing beforehand – then you know what to expect over the years.
